What Grade Do I Need for My Average? - Belgium

Calculate what grade you need to achieve a certain average.

Want to know what grade you need on your next test to pass or reach a certain average? In this article, we explain how to calculate it.

How is Rounding Done in Belgium?

Most Belgian schools use these rounding rules:

  • 9.5 or higher is rounded to 10 (passing)
  • 9.49 or lower remains a 9 (failing)
  • In case of doubt, the class council decides on your final result

Important Thresholds on the Belgian Scale

On the scale of 0-20, these are the important thresholds:

  • 10/20 = Sufficient (50%) - the passing threshold
  • 12/20 = Satisfaction (60%) - good performance
  • 14/20 = Distinction (70%) - above average
  • 16/20 = Great distinction (80%) - excellent
  • 18/20 = Greatest distinction (90%) - exceptional
  • 0-9/20 = Insufficient - not passed

Note: Some subjects or programs may have higher requirements!
